It only got worse from there. Sam had attempted to brush Ruby off, but she didn't stop there. None of it stopped. It went on and on until suddenly Ruby was pushing Sam's hand beneath her shirt, talking about it being just her inside of the body. Heather didn't know what any of it meant, all of the things Ruby was mumbling while pushing into him, and she didn't care to. She didn't want to have to see any of this. She didn't want to hear the conversation leading up to it, either. It would get stuck in her head until she knew it by heart, and it would only add to the pain that came along with just knowing this was a reality out there somewhere.
And then they were kissing again. It wasn't just Ruby doing all the work, either. In the split second Heather allowed herself to keep watching, she could see quite clearly that Sam was returning every kiss, every touch. A lump formed in her throat and her chest tightened, and she turned away and left the room. She refused to stand there and watch.
Once she was back in the room they'd appeared in when Uriel first brought them here, Heather pressed her back to the nearest wall and slid down into a sitting position, a hand on either side of her head to block out any noises. She closed her eyes and swallowed hard, trying to keep herself held together while knowing what was going on in the next room.
