The sedatives felt like insects, crawling through her veins. Dirty. So dirty. And the insects whispered voices, bad things into her brain.
Then there was a touch. A voice louder than the insects. Niki opened her eyes, looking confused at the loud voice.
"It has to be verified of course. Tested, checked. Everyone knows that. Of course."
She nodded earnestly.
"The mice will kill the cat, the cat and her six sisters."
She began to tug on her restraints, becoming agitated when she couldn't pull free.
"No, no, enough with the treachery."
She looked up, her face twisted with anger and hatred as she looked directly at both men.
"You're a killer."
But the itching insect sedatives grew stronger again and she fell back, wanting them all just to stop. They were too loud, crawling inside with their scritching and scratching and whispering of dirty things.
She squeezed her eyes tightly closed for a moment, trying to will them away. She was strong wasn't she? Superman strong.
But they wouldn't stop, why wouldn't they stop? She opened her eyes again and, just for a moment, knew where she was as she looked at her ex.
"Peter?" Her voice was quieter than it had been before and was drowned out by the voices.
So she started to scream. Anything to make herself stop hearing the voices.
