There was a woman who had helped him, and if she was going to be in danger for doing so, then Peter was going to do anything in his power to defend her.
Faith was angry about it. He didn't know why. He didn't know any of the history, and it was just something else to confuse him. "Faith," he said, reaching for her briefly before letting his arm drop. He didn't have the energy for this. As much as it bothered him, there was no way he would be able to focus on it enough to understand all sides. "Go ahead," he said, leaning back against Nathan. "But we'll talk later, okay?" The expression in his eyes as he looked at the Slayer was a mixture of confusion, hurt, and weariness. He trusted Faith, but he couldn't decide anything. Not now. All he wanted right now was to get inside where it was safe and familiar.
