This entire situation was spinning further and further out of control and Sarah wasn't certain there would be solid ground to stand on for much longer. Seventy hours and some odds minutes since Peter's last check in. Almost three days he had been missing and all they seemed to have to show for it was a thousand dead ends, the likelihood that it was Wolfram and Hart and a map of the city that was over half covered by marks, but the empty unknown space still so huge it was like trying to find a grain of salt on the beach.
And then there was what she could feel. It was both blessing and curse, her only connection to him, her only reassurance he was still there, yet it was agony on many levels.
"I don't think we're any closer than we have been in the last three hours," she said, barely resisting the urge to crumple the map in her hand in a ball just for some outlet for everything. There were only so many times she could throw breakable things at the wall and the closer she was pressed to her limit, the harder it was to control her emotions and her magic. Even now, needing the magic that the ring was linked to to be unhindered, Sarah wore the look of the Goblin Queen she otherwise kept concealed and controlled, from dark-rimmed eyes to equally dark clothes.
Right now, it didn't bother her because in the scheme of things, it was insignificant. It was a means to an end, it was necessary.
Dropping to the curb, she laid the map out and crossed off another section of the city before looking up at Tenel Ka. The woman who had, at one time, had such conflict with Peter had been her most constant companion in the last day plus, helping her try to find Peter without actively focusing. It hadn't been easy, but they had been able to systematically eliminate areas Peter wasn't with a combination of Tenel Ka's Force sensitivity and the still-unexplained aspect of the connection she had forged with her magic.
It just wasn't enough. How much more time spent failing to find him would it take?
