Sarah listened patiently as he tried to explain, saving all reactions and responses until she was certain she was done. In the end, it was nothing to laugh at. Instead, it was sweet and very touching, but it wasn't what she wanted. Not at all.
"If it was all mine, it wouldn't mean as much to me as it does to be able to share it," she said softly, leaning in to kiss him briefly before continuing. "I needed them to understand I was their Queen, that the final word was mine so I wasn't dealing with goblin revolts and chickens running free through the throne room forever, but that didn't take very long." She laughed softly. "Being nice does get you a long way sometimes, once you get past people's – or goblins – defensive reactions."
She straighted his tie, mostly because today of all days, it was hard not to touch him, even in so insignificant a way. "You haven't been 'allowed' to come since because I wanted you to be surprised," she said, cupping his cheek with her free hand as she grinned. "I don't get to surprise you very often, after all. I've been busy with more than just laying out a monarchy and making things for you. It would only be impressive if you hadn't seen it since we were there last together."
She rested her forehead against his, but with her eyes open and on him. "Parts of this will always be only 'mine', just like parts of being the Champion will always be only 'yours'. But the rest – me being a part of A.I., you taking this," she slid their hands apart to hold up the ring between thumb and forefinger, "are the things we can share, just as we should. As long as you want to share too, and don't want something that's all yours." She grinned again. "Besides me, that is."
