He started to dismiss it, shaking his head to clear the air, but then she asked. Why? A simple question. A simple reason. He was completely taken off-guard by the offer. She wanted to understand.
"Because it's yours," he said. It was more than that, and Peter frowned a bit, trying to explain what he meant. "We're in this together. Marriage. Partnership. When you had to leave, to go to the Labyrinth and start working on fixing things, establishing your place, I understood your reasons for why I couldn't go with you. There were still things that could hurt me, and you were still learning how to use your own power. I understood. And I didn't want to interfere."
It wasn't coming out quite how he intended. Peter took a deep breath, and tried again. "I wanted you to have something that was still yours. I thought you wanted that, or needed that. We have our whole lives to spend together, and it's so much more than one lifetime. If you did want something that was simply yours, I didn't want to stop you from having it."
