WHO: Ruby WHAT: Sam needed information. So Ruby does what she can WHERE: One of the larger Demon Bars in Downtown LA WHEN: After her grafitti with Sam about Heather and Jo RATING: Violence STATUS: Narritive. Complete
Sam needed information and Ruby knew of only one surefire way to get it, Violence. She probably should have told someone or brought someone with her, maybe the vamp guy or Faith. But as it stood, she didn’t know him near well enough to trust and Faith was with the brothers.
Sam would need her if by some miracle they found the girls first. Until then though she needed to see what information she could get. She had left her knife with Sam and the colt with his father. She was essentially unarmed to fight her worlds demons but this world it was in some ways easier. They hurt from silver so she’d learned, some of them...and she had a gun, a regular one. And her demon strength.
“Damn you Sam” she said simply, her eyes turning black as she walked toward the bar.
It was dark, dank and populated by various kinds of demons and vampires as well as what she thought must have been a few humans and…
“Your face…” whispered a woman in the corner and Ruby sighed, “…what are you…”
“Not human, very perceptive of you well done” she replied walking to the bar and deciding to get straight to the point.
“A Beer” she told the barman, “And information” she said dropping into a bar stool eyes fixed on the man, a cold sneer across her features. “Human looking kid, only not a kid, which you’d know just by looking at her, probably looking for people to work for her, she’s big on the lackies”
“Who wants to know”
Ruby paused for a moment… “Tammi” she said shortly “Worked for her back home and just arrived in the city.”
There had been a flash of recognition at the human looking kid comment but he shook his head.
“No kids allowed in here” he said shortly and Ruby reached over the bar grabbing his head to slam into it.
“Wrong answer” She didn’t have time for this, and Sam wouldn’t wait. They needed an address and they needed a plan.
“Name of Lilith” she asked again banging his head a second time “Its easiest if you just answer”
Some of the demons looked over and Ruby nodded almost professionally to them “Business” she said, this wasn’t the same bar that Sam had cleared out, it was one of the more popular. “Friend of mine would have been in here, recruiting. I’m looking to catch up.
“Lilith you said” came a voice from the corner, a demon, an ugly looking demon of a species Ruby didn’t know looked across to her “You looking to join in her party”
Ruby let the man go, his head dropping to the bar and turned, leaning against it sipping her beer. “I’m thinking she would be horrified I missed the fun”
“Tammi you said”
“Oh yes. We’re old friends, older than you know”
She walked across, wondering why in all the world she’d decided to use the name of her old mentor. The demon who had started her down the path to damnation. Who had heard the call of a weak pathetic little witch and changed everything.
The demon watched her for a few moments and finally nodded.
“She comes in here and for a second we think she got lost, little kid y’know…so J’hus’na, he tries to attack her, kill her y’know and she does this…weird…”
Ruby knew a lot of what Lilith could do, mostly because she’d done it to her, in interesting and varied ways as a punishment for her betrayal. Those memories would likely never fade, she focused on the demon, still telling his tale.
“…ends up his neck twisted lying in a heap in the corner…carrion eaters got him them of course, but the kid says she’s having a party and did we want to come. She told us who she was and some of us read all the old human religion stuff. Is she really?”
Ruby smiled, neither confirming nor denying, Tammi wouldn’t have either.
“Tell me…where can I find her, I do enjoy her parties” she added, draping a hand casually across the arm of the demon, he looked strong. Very strong.
“She left me an address, but uh…having trouble remembering it, maybe you…come out back help me find it…”
Ugh.
“Sure I could…talk some more maybe…jog that memory”
She’d play along till she got an address. Or she’d just hurt him till he gave it to her. She really hoped it was the second one. But the feel of the gun in her pocket a comfort she followed him into the back room.
She hadn’t noticed right away how intently he’d been staring at her. Didn’t notice in fact until they were inside. The door closed behind them and the demon shook his head.
“Don’t know much about Hunters, like…Slayers from what I can work out but without the mystical strength and stuff” he said lightly, turning at superhuman speed and slamming her into the wall beside the door. “…but what I do know is that the Hunters Lilith talked about had a little black eyed pet bitch that she said would come poking round our bars asking questions”
“She’s gonna want to see me” she tried wondering how much Lilith had warned the guy of, is that why he’d been so forthcoming with the information.
“Said I’d smell human all over you, and its there…fading yeah but I can, I really can. …Ruby”
She pushed back, it wasn’t as easy as fighting a human but she was trained, well trained.
The fight was long and brutal and she thought she had heard something in her shoulder click, it stung like a bitch even if it wasn’t her body and there was a bump on her head that would have knocked out a human. A black eye, a cut over her lip and a bruise forming around it. It had been a costly fight for her too. But she’d managed to use the knife to good effect. The thing still bled.
“Thing about being a ‘pet bitch’, she snapped “You start paying attention to the lore that as a demon goes without saying, Now I don’t know what you are. So I brought holy water, and silver, and just plain old bullets. …Oh and a knife that can kill anything.”
Ok so she didn’t have the knife, Sam did. And it couldn’t kill anything. But this world didn’t have anything like it and maybe Lilith mentioned it in connection to her, it managed to spook him anyway as she pulled out another knife and dragged it slowly across its slightly yellowed skin digging it slightly into its head ridges.
“Silver Lake!” he cried and Ruby rolled her eyes. There was another demon. Female.
“Be. More. Specific” she said pushing the knife a little more into the skin.
The demon glared at his mate before a sad expression crossed his face, before Ruby could stop him he pulled her hands away from the knife plunging it deep into his own chest. Blood spurted from it, purple. The demon had killed himself.
…Rather than sell out Lilith.
Knowing what she could do would be worse than anything Ruby could dream up.
Ruby understood the sentiment but she had made her choice a long time ago, she waited a beat and turned with a sigh as the female ran at her, feral, unthinking, all about rage, revenge, the knife went from one heart to another almost instantly. More purple blood
Silver Lake. Still a lot of houses in a lot of streets it could be. but it narrowed it down from all of LA.
It would be a start. Its what she’d promised Sam she could give him. Dragging herself to her feet Ruby moved for her phone to contact Sam. Pet Bitch she may be regarded but still she’d help them, help him, she’d long since lost any care for her reputation.
