Once she had fallen into a deep sleep, he slid out of bed slowly, making sure to shift the bed as little as possible. Lindsey reached out in the darkness, avoiding running into any of the bedroom furniture while locating his jeans and the boots tossed haphazardly in the corner. The living room afforded a little more light as he got dressed and found his keys. His leg met the newly purchased coffee table in the process and he bit back a curse as a sharp pain shot through his shin.
The neighborhood was on the quieter side but it still had enough life to keep things interesting even after the midnight hour had come and gone. Quiet to think he could have back in the apartment as he lay awake beside Cathy but the restlessness was inevitably followed, which led to sneaking out of the apartment for the nighttime walks in the early hours. Even away from the firm, he still couldn't find a normal sleeping pattern.
"I still can't believe that fake ID thing worked." About half an hour into his walk, he came across a group of four kids that didn't look old enough to be out of high school, weaving erratically as they made their way to who knew where, presumably home. Lindsey rolled his eyes as someone giggled, high pitched, and the excited chatter grew in volume, voices overlapping as they recounted their great brush with illegality. Nothing he was concerned with.
Until two shadows detached themselves from a nearby doorway. He stayed at the corner of the building, watching as a man and a woman emerged and stared after the group of kids. The female stood on her tiptoes to whisper something on the male's ear, followed by a nod from the male and they began to follow.
Lindsey scowled. On one hand, it'd be fitting to let the kids get eaten for their own stupidity. On the other, one of the last things that Los Angeles needed was more tweenie vamps. He gave the subject two seconds of consideration before turning to walk away. Let them deal with it.
He made it two steps before there was a stake in his hand tucked in the pocket of his coat and he was changing directions again, turning the corner of the building as he started in the direction the budding circus had been traveling.
He just had to keep telling himself that teenage vampires were really annoying.
