Mary Jane had been in the kitchen making herself a cup of hot chocolate, the first normal thing she'd eaten or drank in days, but she was on her way back to the room she and Peter shared not long after. She heard his voice as she approached the door, and at first she thought he was on the phone, or a visitor had dropped by, but as she peered around the doorframe, she caught sight of him sitting on the bed, talking to a teddy bear.
She didn't want him to see her, to know she was watching, but she ended up letting go of a quiet laugh that was sure to give her away.
"I'm not going to make fun of you," she said, coming out of her hiding place and holding up her free hand in playful defense. "I think it's extremely cute that you're threatening the life of a stuffed animal."
