The sound of his voice startled her at first, and she jumped slightly before glancing up at him, her eyes a little red.
She took in what he said, and nodded slowly. "Things like that happen in this city all the time... can't say I'm surprised by it. Hopefully, you and the police can work together, and figure out who's responsible for it." She looked away from him again for a moment, as the last few shaky words left her mouth, and then after a moment or so glanced back up at him. Her hand went out to touch the spot next to her on the couch. "Um... why don't you um... sit, honey?"
