RATING: High- WARNINGS FOR DRUG USE
STATUS: In progress
After speaking with Tenel Ka Faith decided to keep patrolling, even if she was already on edge. There was nothing wrong in pushing herself that little bit further. No one else could realistically do it after all. So she kept going, managing another couple of stakings. Then she heard it. Two gun shots coming from a couple of streets away.
'Goodbye Faith'
She'd tried so hard to forget what had happened, but the second she heard those shots the memories came flying back and she winced. Her hands actually started shaking and she was almost on autopilot as she made her way back to that bar, forcing her way to the backroom. Slamming the money on the table she made herself not think of her friends as she picked up the syringe. She tried not to think of Kyle as she injected herself with the Orpheus and tilted her head for the vampire to reach her neck. All she could do was close her eyes and welcome the piercing pain in her neck as the vampire's fangs bit through her skin. She could already feel the high from the drugs spinning through her head and she readied herself to sink into the oblivion of the Orpheus.
When abruptly the fangs were torn from her neck. There were shouts and screams as a fight raged through the Orpheus den. Blearily Faith opened her eyes to see a couple of street fighters ripping their way through the vampires, ignoring the humans falling to the floor. The vampire who had been feeding on her staggered towards the door, narrowly missing a staking. Faith's own vision blurred as she followed, more crawling than walking. The world was seeming to spin as she half fell out into the street.
"Well, this is a sad state of affairs."
Faith looked up to see Angelus looking down at her mockingly.
"You're not real."
Angelus shook his head with a smirk. "No, I'm a figment of your drug addled imagination. Doesn't mean I'm lying. You're really quite useless aren't you Slayer."
There was a loud crash behind her and Faith spun around, staring wildly. When she looked back Angelus was gone.
"I should have abandoned you as a baby you little brat."
The voice came from her side and she looked around, confused. "Mom?" She shook her head. "You're dead."
"Wrong Lehane died, clearly," her mother sneered before glancing to her left. "Don't you agree babe?"
A chill went through Faith as she saw Gable step out of the shadows. "I don't know." The pimp licked his lips with a leer. "I was always quite fond of her."
"Be quiet." The cold, British command made both hallucinations turn around and Faith nearly cried when she saw what her brain was throwing at her next. Diana. Her first Watcher. Still covered in the blood from her murder at the hands of Kakistos. The professor knelt by Faith, her expression sad. "What are you doing Faith? Did you learn nothing from me?"
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry. Be the Slayer I wanted."
"Why would you want to do that?" The sarcastic drawl filled the air as Deacon Frost stepped forward, making Diana disappear. "Man, Slayer, you taste fucking A, you know that? You want to whore yourself out to every vampire out there, I say go for it. Hey, one day you might find yourself as one of us. Won't that be fun."
"It's not what I would recommend," Mayor Wilkins glared with disapproval at Frost. "First of all, really Faith, this one? Why would you sleep with him? Can't you find yourself a nice boy, one who gives evil a good name?" He looked down at her sadly. "Oh Firecracker, what have you done?"
Faith began to cry, not seeing the dubious looks from some late night shoppers hurrying home. She continued to stumble down the street, blood still trickling from her neck. Out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw others. Buffy, Peter, Sam, Heather. And Kyle. But every time she turned to look they were gone.
"Faith." It was a voice her mind had already taunted her with, even if the tone was different. Angel. Her heart broke a little as she saw him. "What are you doing Faith? Thought I told you once, that it's never over for people like us. You have to keep fighting. Redemption, remember? It's not supposed to be easy. So stop taking the easy way out."
But I can't, it's too hard. Faith wanted to say so much to him, but not only was he just a figment, she couldn't quite get the words out anyway. So she kept walking, stumbling, even crawling, not knowing where she was going as her mind struggled to separate hallucination from reality.
