Nathan continued to rub his jaw, reaching out to grip Peter's shoulder. The answer seemed simple enough, even though it was a heavy weight, seeing it as the best option. What we're not gonna do is toss him out. He's family, the kind we chose, and if we throw him out, he'll go down the same path as before.
Even if no one knew for certain what had started it all, by now it was easy to guess at anyhow – outcast, wanting to be special, getting the first taste of taking a person's power. From there, it had been a landslide of power for the formerly powerless, fulfillment for the previously unfilled.
But we need a way to keep tabs on him, to know if the noise changes to calm, if the urge comes back. He met Peter's eyes. He knew that, by advocating helping Gabriel, rather than advocating sending him away, he was putting everyone in the building with an ability at risk. He was condoning the risk to his family, even what had happened to Peter. We can't risk the others, but we also can't be the means to creating the monster.
Because if Sylar was created here, they would be forced to stop him before he could hurt anyone else.
