WHO: Ahsoka Tano, some Dementors & [OPEN] WHERE: streets of L.A. WHEN: Wednesday, November 2; after dark WHAT: Getting into trouble. :P RATING: TBD STATUS: thread; in-progress
Though huge in size, sometimes the city stifled Ahsoka, pressing in on her senses to make her long for wide open stretches of land not covered in asphalt and structures, a closeness to the land that hadn't been necessary in space because space was so vast, but was necessary here for Ahsoka to keep from feeling what an inhabitant of Earth would call 'cabin fever'. There was a park close by that gave her some of what she sought at these times, a park she and Anakin often trained in, and it was there Ahsoka slipped off to for a few hours, staying past the point the sun had set. The vampires and other demons were easily dealt with, she had found, and continued to think so, but she had yet to meet a creature that a lightsaber wouldn't dispatch with quickly.
Until tonight.
To a Dementor, the inherent happiness of the little Togruta, despite the recently shaken off 'cabin fever' feelings, was no doubt a shining beacon – or a dinner call. That would be the most reasonable explanation as to why two of them locked on her as she left the park in the direction of the Sanctuary. When they were far off, she didn't sense them as anything more than spots of Dark in the Force, but when they drew close, everything about them tripped her senses.
For this city, it was too much cold and crowing colder. Even more, the recently cast off feelings had returned, intensified, altering her emotions in a way she knew was outside influence because they were so inherently negative. When the Dementor appeared, it didn't so much appear as it was just sensed by Ahsoka, not just with Force ability, but Togrutan senses, her montrals affording her the shape of it without entirely seeing it. It was humanoid in shape, but in no way else. Its presence in the Force wasn't Dark entirely, either, for the creature was outside the realm of easy classification – so many things in this city often were, Ahsoka had found – but it was close enough.
Increasing her speed – as she was, at times, rash, but she was far from foolish enough to take on a creature she had no knowledge of and couldn't actually see clearly – to widen the gap between her and it and reach the Sanctuary fast, she found that doing so only drew its attention. Still, aided by the Force, she was certain she was far faster.
It was only when she slowed, drawing close to the Sanctuary, that she realized that the one left behind was not the only one close, focused so on the first that she had not zeroed in on the second. It was an error in judgment, focusing so narrowly when the battlefield was so wide, that she knew she would hear all about it from Anakin later. Rigth now, however, she had to deal with the creature closest to her, unprepared for the first swoop but fast on her feet. Her lightsaber cut through the bottom half of the space the creature occupied in her extrasensory field, but with no resistance, even if the creature veered off. Missing wasn't an explanation, or even a consideration – instead, Ahsoka realized there was nothing to cut through.
Two more dives by the creature, each closer, each time the feel of it assaulting her senses as she fought back against the feelings, but still avoided and then Ahsoka's problem doubled as the first creature joined the mix, the two weaving back and forth above her head, circling like predators around their prey.
If there was one thing Ahsoka Tano was not, it was someone's prey, and even the thought of it was enough to draw out bristly indignation from beneath the blanket of heavy, sad feelings the creatures tried to lay over her. With a snarl, she rolled away from the diving creatures, completing a full two rolls with a follow-through into a low crouch, saber held above her as she went stock still.
The creatures didn't seem to like the saber, as they did not dive quite so low with it above her head, but neither was it an entirely effective weapon right now, as she could not take them down.
It was time to get creative.
They were Dark, she was Light. If not her saber, then the Force itself. Closing her eyes, Ahsoka reached out in the Force, touching the eddies of Light around her, around the things and people near her, drawing all of that back to her as both protection and intent to use as a weapon.
