Who: Sam and Ruby.
What: It's Halloween. Sam hates Halloween.
When: Evening.
Where: Downtown.
Rating: Probably high for violence.
Every year, ever since he was a kid, Sam found that Halloween was among the worst of the worst holiday traditions to ever make it's ground on all of humanity. Not only was it all sprung from history, both ridiculing and celebrating the demon Samhain himself, but it had also served as a reminder toward the deaths of the people that he had cared about. Not quite the exact date, of course, but it was only two days apart from both incidents. Halloween. It was a hard day to miss. And that was why it was even harder for Sam to forget that the deathdays of both his mother and Jess were steadily zooming closer and closer to his doorstep.
He usually hid away when those days came around. Dean would go off and do his own thing while Sam chose to sulk away in whatever hotel room that they managed to hole themselves up in for the week. It probably wasn't the easiest time in the world for either of them, Sam knew that, but he found that it was kind of hard to be there to support his brother in all of this when he had his own problems to deal with. He always had. It was hard for them to talk much about either subject anyway, so Sam really didn't bother. Dean didn't like to talk about mom too much. Sam didn't like to talk about what happened to Jess. So they both went about their merry ways and ignored the subject that was screaming at both of them. That was how it always worked. Until now.
He sat in his rental, fingers gripping at the steering wheel in front of him to the point where his knuckles were a deathly shade of white. His gaze was fixed onto the road spread out in front of him, watching figures duck in and out of the demon bar that Sam had stumbled upon three days earlier. Dozens of vampires were there. Maybe even more demons. He figured that it was the perfect location for him to mingle. And that was why he was here. Waiting alone for Ruby.
Who, he assumed, probably wouldn't have liked it much if he stormed into the bar chalk full of demons on his own. He had been sorely tempted. In fact, he still was. But Sam wasn't stupid. He knew better than to rush into a scene without first checking the area out and making sure that he had backup for afterward.
He wished that he wasn't so careful though. Maybe it wouldn't be so horrible to be reckless for a change.
