Crossing the lobby, Sarah looked up at the scratching at the door. It wasn't an unfamiliar sound, but it was definitely not one that should have been coming from outside at present, as all scratch-noise-capable animal residents were currently inside the building. If it was something with the intent to get in and cause trouble, the sounds would be louder and the Hyperion security alarms would already be going off.
Dropping her book on the front desk as she passed it, she moved up the steps to peer outside, then open the door, for it was a cat there – black, obviously unfamiliar, but clearly wanting the attention of someone. Sarah crouched down to bring herself to its level, moving slowly as she did so as to not startle it. No collar but not exactly the look of a Los Angeles streets stray. Perhaps a cat that had gotten out of someone's apartment?
"Hi there, sweetie, are you lost?" she asked, holding out her hand to the cat. If it had come all the way to the door, she doubted it would be entirely skittish, but it was always best to use caution with cats because their personalities were so distinctive.
