You're under attack. Lets get going guys.
Static. Communications were down, visual aid was dark. Kat pushed away from her computer desk and stood as if in slow motion to face the crimson pool that stained her floors. It was chaos outside and somehow it all became white noise and everything moved in slow motion. Her throat dried, Kim's voice didn't reach her ears while she stared at the liquid with empty eyes. It brought her back to the day her B-squad placed the containment cards confining A-squad in her hands and the judgment was guilty. She remembered how her hands shook, how empty she felt while the others celebrated their victory. She could only think of her failure. It was like that all over again. Like she was reliving her nightmare.
The blood in her house was theirs, their blood was on her hands. It was like she'd entered a catatonic state. She could hear Supreme Commander Birdie's grainy voice and see the execution infront of her eyes as though it were yesterday. She remembered everything because she was the one to deliver them to their executioner. What day it was. What time of year it was. Even remember how it felt the second her heart broke and her smiles became empty. Every day in the aftermath of their deaths she just went through the motions. Tried to make everything seem right. Never let them see her doubts or fears. She was always the rock. Sometimes even rocks could crumble, and as she stared into the blood inside she was finally breaking apart after years of hiding.
This wasn't what she'd intended when she chose Charlie's team. No mentor ever wanted to see their "students" fall the way hers had to Gruunm's influences. It made her question her place on this new team and she turned away. She turned in a state of mental panic she abandoned the small headset she wore on her desk and left. Kat never took off that headset, it was her link between her and the rangers.
