Jessica stared at him for the longest time. She didn't know what to believe. No, that was wrong. She trusted what Sam had to say but gang activity? Even in her current state she didn’t believe that, for a start the location they were standing in now was more suitable for gangs. “Ok..” she breathed out sceptically, looking over at Ruby when she spoke and then back at Sam.
And then there was light. Jessica squinted as her eyes adjusted and surprisingly enough she felt the corner of her lips lift upwards ever so slightly, now she could see him more clearly. For a moment when he was close enough Jessica thought he would open his arms for her to go to him, to stop acting so differently but her heart sank heavily when he turned away. Jessica remained where she was for a few long moments, trying to work out what she had done wrong. Aside from dying, but that was beyond her control, it had happened so fast she didn’t even have a chance to fight back. She drew in a deep breath when the woman spoke again and finally started to follow them.
Sam wouldn’t lead her into danger, would he? The trust she had wasn’t enough to stop her from wanting to run though, it was instinct. Jessica kept telling herself it would be fine, to remain strong, and continued to follow them. She was completely oblivious to the trap that she had wandered across, with no trouble or care. What person would even notice, with the current lighting and lack of knowledge after all?
