Oh great. They were putting him right into the middle of their little spat. Sam seriously considered inching toward the door, but when Ruby turned to him he sighed and looked between the two with a weary sort of look on his face. "Look, I'm just here to help myself, all right? I'm trying to learn how to use my abilities. So that I can use them for good. So that I can fight this war without turning into the monster that everyone seems to be so afraid of." He looked at Castiel as he said this, even though every single part of him demanded that he look away. "I didn't tell Dean because he won't understand. He'll overreact. The last time I got into my abilities? He didn't like it. At all. And knowing him, if I told him that I was here with Ruby right now, he'd storm right in and try to send her to hell himself."
He shifted uncomfortably and looked over at Ruby. "I need her. She's a demon. She's the first person I should look to in order to control the demon that's inside of me. You understand that, don't you? An angel can't teach me how to control this. No one else can." He couldn't believe that he was vouching for a demon to an angel. God, Sam really needed some mental help.
