Sarah didn't even stop pacing when she called out to Peter, just kept moving the same path at the opposite end of Peter's apartment from the open box, casting glances at it frequently. Pacing wasn't really helping her think, but it was at least burning a small fraction of the nervous energy building in her. After sending Toby to play with a promise that she would tell him once she knew anything, she had sought to actually fulfill that promise.
Right now, what she did know meant she couldn't know any more. Her gut reaction of 'no, never, no' was still warring with all the facts and supposition as to what would happen if she didn't make this choice – and what would happen if she did.
Laid in that box in the protection of black velvet was a crystal and a pendant, the former clearly familiar but the latter only familiar in design, a design Jareth had worn. What changed it was that it was far smaller and infinitely more delicate. A pendant for a Queen, perhaps.
Goblin Queen.
She raked her hands through her hair, mussing it even further, and wondered if it was possible to wake up now.
