And that answer was enough for Claire. Even if it were true that is was due in part to wanting to hear it wasn't wrong for her own conscience, it was mostly because Noah said it wasn't and that was all the assurance she needed.
"Thank you, Dad," she whispered, finally looking up at him as she rested her chin on his chest. Thank you was inadequate, but it was all she had. "Not just for this, but for everything you've done."
She hadn't agreed with all of it in the past, she'd hated some of the things he'd done, it had been hard to work past parts without other painful things there to motivate her, but she still knew he'd done it because he loved her, even the worst things. He had done it all, and not because it was best for his image or because someone else had told him it was what he should do, but because he loved her.
She smiled, and though it lacked the emotions a smile should, she still tried. "Thank you for being my dad."
