His head hurt. He was exhausted. Eddie wanted to go to sleep but Venom was restless and couldn’t grant the human side what he needed. The chaos that was already here, the end that was stampeding towards them at record speed, riled him up and kept him alert. At all times.
Eddie couldn’t rest. It was impossible.
Felicia was the only real friend that he had here. Before everything, before Los Angeles, before the symbiote, Eddie had possessed a handful of friendships. During his years as a student, he had swept up companions for himself with barely any effort thrown into the attempt. His father hadn’t always approved of his choice of acquaintances and Eddie had never cared enough to get rid of them for his sake.
They were meant for him , not for his father.
Eddie thought that his father would have approved of Felicia. He couldn’t see or sense anything about her that would get a disapproving shake of the head from the man who was impossible to please. No matter. He wasn’t here to meet her. He wasn’t around to judge and Eddie was happy about that. If he said anything bad about Felicia, he thought that he would tear his face off, rip it apart like he had wanted to do so many times before.
Bad, horrible thoughts.
She appeared at the door and he mustered up a small smile for her. It was the best he could do. He walked in, moved over to the couch, didn’t sit down. “I’m worried more about you than about myself, to tell the truth. I’ll be better once this is all over.” A cold, laugh without humor threatened to bubble in his throat, and Eddie bit it back down.
I’ll be better once this is all over . He didn’t believe that. How could he?
“You’ll get the money back by not having to pay for bottled water anymore. The prices haven’t exactly gotten friendly. And I’m fine, thanks.” A repulsive full feeling filled him up, and it gave Eddie the idea that maybe he had devoured something, someone, not very long ago.
