Famine spun and smiled at the woman. It was a thin smile and didn’t dwell on his face too much. The background music was sweetly morbid to bring atmosphere to this meeting. His grey eyes and his mannerisms were civil enough as he took a short bow. He approached to the table with sparked interest.
“May I borrow it for a while?” he asked her politely. “I know this is very unusual, but I was looking for a particular passage in Greek; it’s important for my job.” He did not touch the book or tried to pressure her answer, just waited patiently to be allowed or denied the favour.
