Sarah's words satisfied Toby, because in truth he wasn't ready to hear talk about the end of days or anything so dramatic as that. All that he really wanted to know was that though things were bad now, the good guys were working to fix it. Toby had been going through a rough patch, all things considered, and his uneasy stomach likely couldn't handle sugar coated lies or the full awful truth.
Easily distracted with her diversion, Toby sat a bit more upright on the pillows, looking at her eagerly. "You lost your voice?" The tale of a city left without speech was interesting, yes, but there was nothing quite as interesting to a young boy as the tale of his own big sister without the ability to talk. After all, though he was old enough to want to take care of Sarah, he wasn't so old that he was above teasing her. "I didn't think that was possible. What happened?"
