Taking the thermometer out of its case at her side, Sarah nodded. "Of course you can – unless it's about math, in which case, no," she said, smiling down at him before she stuck the thermometer in his mouth. "And you can ask it when that beeps."
She waited patiently as the numbers on the digital display ticked up, then held as the thermometer beeped. Same temperature as before – higher than normal, but not high enough to be truly worrisome yet. She picked up another alcohol swab, tore it out of its wrapper, wiped the end of the thermometer and then stuck it back in the case.
"You want more ginger ale?" she asked, sitting forward to take his glass of the bedside table.
