"Because... I can see it," Gabriel said quietly, a slight frown crossing his face. Oh, this was definitely not the sort of situation that he had expected to be thrust into when he'd walked outside. If he'd known that it was, he would have just stayed behind the desk. At least Victor had known what he was when Gabriel had ran into his. He'd had a better idea at the time what was going on than Gabriel had. But now the roles were reversed, and it was him that was left trying to figure out how to explain this.
"You see... My mind works differently than most people's. While most tend to look at something and see only its outward features, I can look at something...or someone, and see all of their aspects, outer and...inner," Gabriel said, swallowing over the lump in his throat. "In...most cases, my mind hones in on the brain of something that I just meet to see if...well, if it can find anything interesting or abnormal about that person, and you... You...sort of set off a powder keg."
Gabriel's cheeks were a bright red by this point, and there was little sense in stopping now. He might as well cross the point of no return. "It tends to respond more positively to machines. Organic systems are...less efficient."
