Thanks to the thoroughly walked on, multi-lingual tourist map she'd found two breezes away from being in the gutter, Usagi eventually had a name to put to this place. It was a small start, but feeling extremely proud of herself for not crumpling into a tearful, frustrated heap after the first twenty minutes of confused wandering, the young woman couldn't help but puff up like she'd unearthed some grand discovery.
Of course, that was nearly an hour ago and, by now, her excitement had dwindled, making way for a bloom of anxiety. Blame it on the cramping legs, the fact that while she'd always wanted to travel, this wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind, and the protesting stomach beneath her pastel sweater. Usagi had considered making a phone call; to home, to Mamo-chan, to anyone, but her pocket was heavy with nothing but a few yen pieces and some candy wrappers. She didn't have the slightest clue as to where she could exchange the extremely modest sum for American money, which meant she couldn't contact anyone, which concluded that she was stuck here and might never get back home.
Overactive imagination obviously at work now, Usagi breathed out a whine and immediately moved out of the way of pedestrian traffic to pathetically crouch down beside an empty shop, insides churning and eyes burning. Why did I leave my communicator at home today? She mentally whimpered, hands wringing that worn, poor old map she'd yet to let go of.
