As soon as she mentioned the setting of rules, Nicholas blew out a breath and adjusted himself, just slightly so he was facing her a little more. Still, he wasn't facing her completely because he wasn't sure if he could bring himself to make it so he was actually giving her full eye contact. There was a reason why they called him the shy, quiet one and it wasn't because he enjoyed social occasions.
And then she was telling him Alex couldn't stay, to which Nick could have sworn his heart both stopped and sunk to the very pit of his stomach at the same time. He should have known this was coming. If the same thing had happened at home with Denise, she would have set her up at a family member's home because there would have been no way in Hell that she would have let a girl live with them.
