One altar boy approached Lilith whispered the response of the Cardinal in a hushed voice. The man apologized but he had urgent business to attend elsewhere, she missed the Church she was familiar with, the one she turned for spiritual guidance without fault.
“Thank you, dear,” she said, making the sign of the cross and rising from her pew. She turned to leave with a cast down expression when she noticed the company. Of course she had heard the footsteps and the man standing near her, but she hadn’t acknowledge him just yet.
“Ah, excuse me, sir,” she said gently with a serene smile on her lips, “I think the Church is about to close.”
