Darth Caedus looked up at his daughter, more than a little surprised that she would ask that question. He studied her for a very long moment, wondering why she would question such a fundamental foundation to her existence. But then, hadn't he in his younger and weaker years? He had even renounced the Force in order to find out true meaning to existence, to the universe.
Slowly, Caedus marked his place in the book, noting the page number, closed the book, folded his hands, and began to speak. "The Jedi are supposed to fight for peace and justice throughout the galaxy. Isn't that the mantra? Guardians of peace and justice for a thousand generations. Then why is there no peace, no justice? Always more war, injustice, hatred. Jedi claim the moral superiority because the Force lends them the power to do so. They try to drill that moral superiority into themselves and their young."
Caedus paused as his eyes assumed a far away look. "But what happens to a Jedi when he's faced with his own moral superiority and the need to do something important, Amelia? Such as choosing between the life of an innocent child or the life of an enemy? Or such as choosing between death and using Sith powers? You never hear those stories because they're carefully buried, even from other Jedi, but when it comes between easy and hard, the Jedi, for all their reputation, choose easy."
Returning from the far away place he had been inside his mind, Caedus gave his daughter a sad smile. "That's the true inclination of the Jedi. For all the training and commitment and words, they take the easy path."
