There were a great many ways that Amelia could reply to what he'd just said. She could decline, stand up, and leave. She didn't think he'd try to stop her, and if he did she'd get someone from the Hyperion to show up and help stop him if need be. Or, she could ask her own questions instead, see what he had to say about those and decide if he was really going to be honest enough that she could at least waste her time listening to anything else he might say.
Or, she could let him speak. Hear him out. Make no judgments, of course, but just take in what he had to say and then go directly to someone she trusted to determine the validity of his claims.
That, she decided, was probably the best route to take. Hostility, even thinly veiled as sarcasm, wouldn't get her far and dismissal would only serve to close off the only real chance she'd ever have for this conversation. So really, her choice was all but made up for her.
"So long as you realize I'm not liable to believe much of what you say, by all means," she replied evenly. There wasn't any disrespect in her tone, anger, or sarcasm. Just a simple statement of fact. If he said something that was meant to upset her, she wasn't going to believe it. Why would she? No one in her life had reason to lie to her, to keep things from her. No one except for him, that is.
