While it was normal for him to feel as though time passed very, very slowly it was almost torturous in its crawling speed as Bella went through her change. Every moment that she spent in pain seemed an eternity to him. Even worse was the feeling so helpless, he knew nothing he could do could stop the pain, could hurry her transition along. All he could do was wait and watch, and feel some part of him die as she lost her mortal life. It wasn't as though he didn't want this for her, he had gotten past that, but there was still so much that she was giving up.
As he heard her heart start its slowing, the last final beats, he moved closer to her, pressing a hand to the side of her face. It was almost over. She would live, a matter of speaking of course. He could smell the difference in her blood, feel the change of her under his hand.
Edward let her adjust to her new vision, the new sense of smelling, hearing. He was calmer now that the pain was over for Bella, almost excited at her realization of it all. He could remember that, they way everything felt when he first woke up in his new life. The overwhelming sense of it all. He waited for her eyes to find his and he kept her gaze. She looked different, but she was still Bella, his Bella. She had always been the most beautiful thing in the world to him, she didn't need to be a vampire for that. As she touched his face he shifted his head to press a small kiss to the side of her hand. She felt warm and soft to him still, as he was sure she was discovering of him, but he could feel the difference in her, he knew he no longer had to keep her at such distance. "Hello, love," he muttered quietly offering her a grin.
