Out. He was out and that was wonderful! That was kittens and bunny rabbit wonderful and Barty was brimming with excitement, for he was free and able to think and stare with thought in his eyes. There was no vacant peering out from behind bars that he would never think of breaking out of, no mindless gaping, no absence of brain power. There was a soul to feel the void that had been left by the Kiss. He was free, finally able to move around as he wished.
Out. He was out for good this time.
Barty scrambled out of his chair and over a living room sofa, kicked a dead body out of his way and tripped on his way to the front door. He took back his footing in a mere second and peered back over his shoulder, ran to the sofa again, picked up the leashed pet rabbit and hurried out with the animal tucked and squirming under his arm. He had planned on throwing it out the fifth story window, but why kill it when he could steal it and make it loyal to him? He could have himself a loyal bunny rabbit. That was a great thought. He could do that.
He saw the mark marring the sky as soon as he left the air conditioned building. It was beautiful and deadly and Barty stopped in his tracks, tilted back his head and beheld it in all of its terror inducing glory. He hoped they all saw it. He hoped they were shaking. He hoped they knew what he and Bellatrix were about to do.
Streets would be painted red tonight, in his name, for their Master. They would do something in his honor, and if he showed, he would be proud of them both.
Apparating from one spot to the other, Barty found his destination without trouble. Seeing Bellatrix doing what she did best got him running to join her right after he tied the rabbit’s leash to a post and gave him a single pat on the head.
“Oh! I bet they all see it! They see it and they know what we’re doing!” If he was any more excited than he already was, he would be rolling on the ground.
