The name he used for Peter, as always, annoyed Sarah because she despised the reduction of Peter to one aesthetic aspect of his entire being, one that she looked on no more differently than any other part of him, and loved no less than any part. But this was annoyance, not rage and fear, and she could handle that.
"He has a name, and it's Peter," she said slowly, lifting the drink from the napkin. "From now on, if you're going to talk about him, that's the name you'll use." She said it calmly, but with an underlying edge of steel in her tone that said she meant business.
"And funny thing, about that judgment clouding," she continued, looking at him over the rim of the glass as she lifted it. "I forgot everything because of your poisonous hedges and I still saw very clearly what was 'actually going on'. I'll keep on seeing that clearly, no matter what you think is or isn't clouding my judgment. So, as I said, there isn't going to be a next time."
