After Danica swept off Ryan and carried him out the room, Lilith picked up the thin metal case and followed them in silence. She wasn’t used to talk a lot unless it was necessary and other people needed the support of a friendly voice while they were being healed or – during her time as war leader – the unshaken ring of a commander. Most of the time, she kept to herself.
She climbed into the car when Danica indicated and buckled her seatbelt. Her expression softened at the sight of the boy’s pain. “Be still, dear, in a few minutes the analgesic would ease all the pain,” she assured him while looking at his fingertips. Minor surgery, good rest, the nail would take time to grow as they used to be unless she accelerated the growing rate with an elaborated drug. She would put the method to the guardian’s discretion.
“Ah, in the rush, I didn’t introduce myself,” she said, self-reproachfully. “My deepest apologies. My name is Lilith and I’m sorry about these circumstances.”
