After the final passenger had gotten on the bus, and the bus started rolling, that was when Alessa answered Henry's question in a quiet tone. "Those were vampires. Like I told you over the network; this place isn't exactly normal."
Alessa's attention turned to a young child and mother who were sitting on the bus, just a couple of seats diagonally from where Alessa and Henry were sitting. The little girl, probably no more than seven years year old looked tired, and worn out. The mother also looked tired and worn out herself. The little girl had been fidgeting in her seat, and at one moment was looking at Alessa. Alessa smiled at the little girl, and the little girl smiled back.
She turned back to Henry, and explained, "It's not safe to go out at night alone. Not unless you have some way to defend yourself."
