Dean felt lost, and he didn't know how to fix it. He never had been very good about doing things without Sammy. He always said that he wanted to be there to protect his little brother but the truth of the matter was that Dean Winchester just didn't know what to do without Sam there to watch over. A big part of who he was was that he was Sam's protector. Ever since he carried Sam out of that nursery fire, he felt that his first and most important job was to look out for his little brother. It was his identity. Now, not only had Dean failed by letting Kira run her big mouth off to some wish maker (or whatever in the hell that demon was) he had also failed yet again to get Sam back after confronting the thing that looked like him.
Even now his mind was trying to work out some solution to this, but there weren't that many that sounded even vaguely successful.
There was one plan in the back of his mind that he refused to think about. If he couldn't bring Sam back, someone else could. For a price, yes, but Dean had no doubt that there were Crossroads demons here. He knew now about how a deal like that would effect Sam, he had seen first hand what it did to his brother, but he was seflish enough not to care. If he couldn't get Sam back, he would have to start thinking the same desperate thoughts he had before.
Feeling Jo's gaze on him, Dean looked at her, realizing for the first time he had not even sat down or do much more than pace since they got in the room. He sighed, raking a hand through his hair. "Well that went great, didn't it?"
