Rinoa regretted her hateful words as soon as she'd spoken them, and fully expected that Davy would have come after her, to hit her or worse. Shame flooded through her that she would pass on that pain to someone else, someone she didn't even know. Jack himself had spoken of Davy with a fearful respect, and she treated him this poorly.
He surprised her by turning away silently, and heading back into the hotel. He had even passed over retribution, and it only made her feel worse.
"Wait...I'm sorry," Rinoa pleaded, starting after him. He had already gone down the steps, so she couldn't see him now, only hear his laborous gait down the stairwell. She stopped at the top, framed by the darkness. "I should never have said such a thing. I'm sorry." She took one step down, listening for him in the dark. "Truth be told, he's not with her, and that all happened in the past. He came to tell me that she's...gone." She took a deep breath, wondering if this was any better than what she'd said before. "That they'd found a way to free her."
