Eyes on her book, though she hadn't been reading it so much as staring at it until tears occasionally blurred the pages, Claire nearly jumped when someone settled into the chair next to her, turning her head a moment before her eyes widened. Heidi? Her father's wife – and she still wasn't certain if that made the woman her stepmother, or if adoption canceled that out, so she was simply 'Heidi' – had found her? Peter must have told her where she was, she knew he could find all of them no matter where they were in the city, and sent her instead of coming himself. He really must be angry with her.
She recognized the song referenced and offered Heidi a half-hearted half-smile. "It's open ended," she said, sliding the ticket out of the back of the book to show to her. "I didn't know how soon I'd be able to come back."
Even now, coming back was on the table. She knew she couldn't stay in Odessa, and if she couldn't be there, where else could she be but here in Los Angeles?
