She had been sleeping for a long time, too long, but her slumber was dreamless and peaceful. She had been sleeping the sleep of the just. There weren’t voices in her head or the knowledge they would use her body like a marionette. Rest eternal, what she had been praying for. Lilith Sahl remained still in her coffin for hundred of years. The casket made of silver and gemstones, protected by a technology lost in the depths of time and space. She was motionless like Sleeping Beauty after she prickled her finger and no Prince could awake her from the curse. Her Prince Charming had mourned her and slept along with her for ages.
Her serene solace was broken when a lukewarm sunbeam illuminated the glass from the lid. The light poured within the inside of the coffin, seeping away the darkness and the world became real to her again.
Her stomach and blood stirred with a nagging hunger and consuming thirst. Feed… she heard them whisper, forcing her body to stir from a nearly millenarian nap. Panic assaulted her briefly when she found herself a prisoner of their actions until her will and keen brain took the control from them and thanked Heavens nobody had peered close to her yet. Bit by bit, everything began to make sense. A strange multiplicity of sensations seized her, and she saw, felt, heard, and smelt, at the same time; and it was a long time before she schooled her mind to distinguish between the operations of her various senses anew. The sunlight fled from the glassy lid as darkness grew above her.
Lilith Sahl fully awoke after sunset, removing the lid and becoming aware of her image. She was a tall and slender woman with hazel-golden eyes of the shade of good tea and her hair was neither brown nor red but a color in between. Her skin was caramel and carved by intricate tattoos. Her head was bejeweled while she donned a silk sari. Her head…
Lilith’s eyes widened, reaching for the curve of her neck. It was still attached to her body.
Oh my God… she clasped her hands together in a prayer. Lilith hadn’t thought beheading could kill them, but Cain had done something else. He couldn’t finish his deed. She could still sense them. Abel… The world! The Dark Saint remembered her mission. She had to calm her fluttering heart and overcome the panic before she presumed herself to save any of them.
