"Thanks," Alex replied with an appreciative, if not more than slightly flustered smile. "So do you." A pause, and she decided to keep up with their teasing banter even in spite of the formality of the date. "I guess you clean up pretty nice after all."
It was actually the first time she'd been on a date that her parents weren't hovering over or keeping a watchful eye on, and it was also the first date she'd been on with a boy who was so polite. Not that she'd been out on many dates, but comparitively, Nick was by far the sweetest.
She took his arm and allowed him to lead her to the door, and once outside, she couldn't help but feel a little flicker of surprise when she saw the taxi. It was no limo, but the fact that it was waiting there for them already was something that touched her.
"Thanks again," she said to him, speaking about both the taxi and the way he opened the door for her. And she slid inside, making room for him beside her.
