"You are not even trying!" Selene was clearly elated. She felt free. Completely free. While she would love to hear what he might dream up she was pretty sure he was not going to confess. Or actually try to beat her in this impromptu race.
Little could bring her down right now. The wind whipping at her face, the pounding of the horse hooves, the adrenaline that pumped through her veins, she was completely lost in the moment. As the sun had set the night air grew colder. The stars sparkled over head. Beautiful. Glancing over her shoulder she just smiled at him, her eyes lit up with the sheer joy she felt. Pressing her feet down into the stirrups she lifted off the saddle a bit and pushed the horse a bit harder. Up ahead she could see the sliver of moonlight reflecting off the roof of her car.
As they hit the end of the trail she plopped back down on the saddle and pulled back on the reins. The horses hooves stirred up a cloud of dust as he came to a quick stop. Selene just laughed and patted the side of his neck. Sliding her hand along his silk coat she leaned down to whisper in his ear words of praise. She was taught that your horse was your closest friend in battle and you were to treat them well. The sound of his feet was different as they trotted slowly across the small parking lot towards the trailer.
