She nodded, taking the flashlight from him and steadying it against the hand that was holding her gun in a sort of makeshift weapon-slash-lighting combo.
Slowly, she was being lifted closer and closer to the vent, until finally she was at a height that gave her a perfect view inside. She peered through the slits in the metal cover, squinting to see in the small slivers of light that the flashlight managed to provide. After a few moments of this, she heard the sound again, and caught sight of something coming around the nearest corner of the vent system. It stopped, then, and that was what made Heather believe it was in the vents because of the darkness it provided, not to hide or to wait for it's prey. It must've been nocturnal in a way. She felt this was proven when it shifted slightly, then skittered off in the opposite direction, away from the light.
"It's gone," Heather began, pulling back and glancing down at Sam. "I don't know what it was, but it -- " Suddenly, the vent cover came flying off the wall and the creature jumped out, causing Heather to twist in an effort to keep herself from being attacked. She couldn't keep her balance, but at least she hadn't had her face ripped off, and the thing instead went leaping onto the floor behind them. It was large, and it didn't seem to have been able to fit into such a tight space, but obviously it had. It had the legs and body of a spider, with long, skinny legs that came to a sharp point at then end, but the torso of a human was fused to where the torso of the spider would've been. The face was melted off, and it shrieked at a glass-shattering volume.
