Jacen walked up the block from where he was staying, visiting the local pizza parlor. Willow and he had discovered the place a while back, and after sampling a variety of vendors, had come to the conclusion that this one not only had the best ambiance, but the best food as well. It was what the Terrans called a "mom and pop" store. It was very well-designed, with wooden floors and tables and chairs, all of it elegantly appointed, yet simple. The walls were decorated with paintings that portrayed scenes from a place called "Italy". Best of all, you could see the ovens and the men behind the counter as they worked, so there could be no doubts as to what was being put in the food, and how they did their job. It was, overall, a very nice place. And it was relatively inexpensive, too.
Picking a table near the counter, Jacen sat with something resembling relaxation. After a rather unpleasant experience of being locked up in a room with his teenaged rebel of a daughter, he had already visited retribution on Willow's head, giving her chocolate laxatives that she had eagerly ingested. He had been wise enough to beat a hasty retreat at the earliest opportunity, though. Once that had been done with, he had sent a request to his daughter to join him for dinner at this same parlor.
He wasn't sure if she would come, though. After all, it was a big leap from hating someone to sharing a meal with them. But she was a teenager. Surely, her stomach was stronger than her head.
"How in the name of crushing black holes did you find this place in the first place?" Amelia asked as she approached Jacen not twenty seconds later. Glancing around as she slid into the seat across from him, her gray eyes landed back on him as she questioned, "It has to be one of the most secluded locations in a city this side. If you blinked, you'd miss the street!" With a shake of her head, her lips quirked upward into the trademark Solo smirk.
"So did you think I wouldn't show?" she asked casually, peering over the top of the menu at him. There was still amusement in both her tone, and her gaze, as she looked back at what the restaurant had to order.
Subtle she is not.
Leaning back in his chair, Jacen decided to go for the causal banter. "You're a teenager. I knew your stomach would be much stronger than your head. A free meal, and as much of it as you could swallow? You wouldn't be a Solo if you passed it up."
Calmly observing, he watched as she eagerly scanned the menu to pick a meal. He wondered if her tastes had changed overly much since the last time he had brought her here. Probably not. Good taste rarely changed. "As to how I found the place, in between picking off monsters, surviving assassination attempts, and being used to somewhat bigger cities, I get a little pressed for time come dinner, so I just stop by the first place I find open, and this place happened to be nearby."
Amelia could do subtle. Really, she could. She just chose not to do it unless she had to. She preferred just speaking what was on her mind. But she could be subtle if necessary. Peering over her menu at him, she studied him for a long moment as if trying to determine if he were telling the truth or not. Of course, Amelia held no real hope that she would be able to know if he was or wasn't; it wasn't as if she really knew him all that well.
Closing her menu, she placed it on the table and folded her hands into her lap as she replied, "Well, I've only ever tried pizza once, at the Hyperion. It wasn't too bad." So this place would likely work, she decided. Now to just figure out what to talk about while eating, and she'd be doing great.
She could honestly not remember a more awkward meeting in her entire seventeen years alive. She was completely at a loss as to what to say, or do, or much of anything else really. She smiled gratefully when the waitress approached, ready to order if only to have something distracting to do.
Not up for banter? You did start it.
Leaning back as the waitress arrived to get their orders, Jacen started. "I would like to order one medium pie, extra cheese, one 16 oz bottle of Sprite, and some breadsticks, please."
Jacen looked over at Amelia, raised an eyebrow, and gestured for her to order. Now, if he was right, she would order a medium pie, pineapple, one Coke, and barbecue wings. And probably dig in so messily a picture moment would be necessary.
And true to Jacen's thoughts (although she had no way of knowing as much), Amelia ordered precisely that. Although instead of the barbecue wings she ordered the hot version, but that was only a recent discovery on her part. Once she'd placed her order and the waitress left, she looked back to Jacen while finding herself still at a complete loss for conversation.
It wasn't that nothing had happened lately. Her life had actually had a few rather excitable moments in it as of late. She just wasn't sure what she should, and shouldn't, mention to Jacen.
"So, have you spoken to Tenel Ka lately?" she finally asked, deciding it was a safe enough topic between them and was something she was curious about.
