WHO: Nathan Petrelli, Elaine Belloc WHERE: the skies above L.A. WHEN: Friday August 26; sunrise WHAT: A morning flight comes with a revelation. RATING: TBD STATUS: thread; in-progress
A morning flight having long since replaced a morning jog – with the F&T Centre in the hotel, the benefits of a jog were now found elsewhere – for Nathan, he was once more out in the skies when the sun rose. The reason for this new habit was part enjoyment, of course, as flying had always been a passion, even when it had been at the cockpit of a plane. The other part, the more significant of the reasons, was honing his ability – if there was anything he could use it for, he wanted to be able to use it without being hampered by inexperience. It was the only gift he had and he had long-since left behind the fear of using it, or even talking about it. Gone also were the days of scorched-feet landings and exhausting, awkward piggybacks. Even more, he had discovered that with experience, he gained more speed on top of maneuverability.
Though he mostly kept far above the city once he was clearly visible in the sky at slower speeds, the time right near sunrise he stayed lower, using empty rooftops and vacant lots for takeoffs and landings. He had begun to learn the layout of Los Angeles as well as he knew New York. Actually, even better, given his vantage point. It was also of use in breaking up the occasional attack he encountered. He no longer patrolled, but he would always throw in his help to anyone in trouble.
When the sky was brighter, he moved to higher altitudes. It wasn't often he encountered anything more than birds and he was careful to avoid coming too close to planes.
