Arthur hadn't been expecting a tail so quickly, so it took him several steps more than it should have to notice he was being followed. He caught sight of the young, dark-haired man in a shop window as he passed; too eager to be professional, but too cautious for a pedestrian in a rush.
There were several things a person could do when they were being followed, and after three steps, he had selected a course of action. A clustered crosswalk was an ideal location, and giving his watch a quick glance for show, he turned sharply and cut into the crowd milling across the asphalt. Halfway across, he had enough distance and a good enough cover to duck around two tall businessmen, three mothers and a handful of undeterminables. Keeping to the edge of the crowd and a wary eye for the tail, he stepped back onto the corner, and glanced in the windowfront of the shop there to see if the tail had managed to stick as he passed it.
