There was really nothing Nathan could say to the wart comment, though he had every intention of doing so anyhow because what this woman looked like didn't matter to him. He knew saying that might only risk it sounding dismissive too, and that it did matter to Heidi, otherwise she wouldn't be talking about it, but any attempt to start was forestalled by what she said next.
Though Nathan didn't draw back from that proclamation, he did flinch involuntarily. His children would have no way of knowing some stranger had any impact on their lives, but that didn't change he didn't want even the smallest bit of those mistakes to touch their lives. He couldn't stop visitors to the hotel, which meant this could happen again.
He reached out, pulling her head up so he could meet her gaze. If she fought him, he would let go, but it wasn't going to derail what he needed to say.
"I'm sorry," he said, so much meaning behind it. Sorrys and I love yous might not make it go away, but it didn't mean they still shouldn't be said, and it definitely didn't mean he wouldn't say them. "I'm sorry this keeps coming back and that it'll never really go away. But I love you. You, Heidi, always. I screwed this up in a way I can never take back, but I've never stopped loving you, not for one second."
