Though he knew he should let go the moment she moved, Nathan couldn't bring himself to let go of her until she'd well and truly gotten herself free on her own. Then he did, giving her her space for now as she slid to the edge of the bed. He despised doing this to her. He despised himself for what he'd done, leaving his beautiful, confident wife with a landmine-littered field to traverse, wondering what would be the next thing to blow up at her feet.
But he couldn't change that he'd done it – the only thing he could do was repair what could be repaired, make new the things that couldn't be fixed and do everything he could so that someday she could trust him again, could believe he would never do this to her again.
And though he'd meant to give her space, it didn't last very long before he slid to the edge with her and wrapped his arms around her, needing to do it whether she accepted it or pulled away again. And for this, he would keeping going to her no matter how many times she pushed him back, as he couldn't lose her.
"I didn't know she'd be anywhere near the hotel," he said quietly.
