And completely content flew right out the window as though it had never existed in this place and time. Had he had any defenses up, Nathan might have controlled a reaction to what Heidi just said, but he didn't. He was still tired enough and so close to recently awake that he couldn't reign in the feelings at hearing Heidi tell him she'd met the woman, the 'other woman' in the sense that he had a one night stand with her, the woman who later went on to become his brother's girlfriend for a time. Nor could he reign in the physical reaction.
He flinched, hands stilling.
"You met her," he said, more statement than question, a brief pause before adding, "the woman who doesn't like Peter," as though that were the reason for his reaction.
