Kathy listened quietly, reassured in spite of herself by Sarah's words. It did help to know that the older woman had found herself in a similarly confusing situation when it came to mistaken identity. It made her feel less foolish, less at fault.
But then, she reminded herself sharply, there was the fact that she had done it before. After Liam had died, she had been totally heartbroken, praying fiercely for her brother to be returned to her. Thus, when the vampire came to the door, it was Kathy who had made the mistake of thinking that he had returned to her an 'angel'. The little girl had no qualms about inviting him into their home, an action which resulted not only in her own death but those of her parents.
With the memory, her expression clouded over, and she shook her head sharply. "The man--...He sent a note that said not to tell anyone he was coming for me. Liam wouldn't have done that. I should have learned."
