"As dangerous as it is, it's the best place. Less fad following celebrities and stupid kids to come wandering in off the street. Sometimes they're almost as bad as the creatures that lurk in the alleyway," Lindsey murmured in reply as he opened the book he'd been holding.
The left page bore paragraphs scrawled in the same language from the book spine that he didn't recognize, but the right page held paragraphs in latin. He fell silent as he studied the page, the translation rolling over in his mind.
It was a powerful protection spell, similar in set up and execution to the Hoodoo spell yet there were differences that marked it as a darker magic, to not only prevent the enemy from reaching their target but to detain them as well.
Bird of Hermes? His attention wavered from the page once more. There was something about the woman that struck him as familiar though he was absolutely sure that they had never met before, at least in person. She seemed to be as human as he was, with a considerable knowledge of the occult if the glow of the books were any indication. She knew what she was looking for.
"There's certainly no lack of that either. Just when you think you're beginning to understand the way things are going to work, another appearence sets off another event that blows the theory all to hell." He snapped the book shut, stifling a sneeze as a minute amount of dust rose off the pages. The protection market must not have been as active of the others.
He turned as she began to talk about those in charge. There was a small but amused smirk on Lindsey's lips as he leaned back against bookshelf, taking in her words. "The supernatural population in charge? With the exclusion of the higher powers that do little more than throw more complications into a situation, I would say that it is a fair struggle between humanity and its supernatural counterpart."
